Exciting Changes

This past week I've been thinking a lot about my uni degree and have decided to transfer courses.

Currently I am doing a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of teaching majoring in English, Ancient History and minoring in French. This would enable me to teach English, History and French in highschools upon graduating. I am about a third of the way through the degree but am on a break until Trimester two this year due to the purchase of Dancestuff and a trip to Disneyland with my students scheduled in April.

The more I think about my businesses, the more I realise that I simply wont use a teaching degree. I have my ballet teaching qualifications, which I use, but I just can't see me having time to teach in highschools on top of running two businesses.

So I have decided the best course of action for me will be to change my degree to one I definitely know I will use. I have applied to transfer to a bachelor of arts and bachelor of business. This will allow my arts degree to remain largely unchanged (I will major in either English or Ancient History and use the units I have already done) and can still study any other area of choice with the elective units available. For the business degree, I will major in marketing, which will be hugely beneficial to both my businesses, and will be well worth the money and time of attaining.

I feel this is the best decision for both my businesses and myself and I'm pretty keen to get back into it all when trimester two begins later this year.

In the mean time. I have enrolled for Marie Forleo's BSchool. Which I am super excited about. She is such a fabulous woman and I admire her greatly, along with many other women entrepreneurs that she associates with.

A day in the life of Miss Ali... Thursday

7:30 alarm goes off... snooze button gets pressed. It seems I am getting into this bad habit again

7:45 up out of bed and feed pets.

Jump on scales... not sure what possessed me to do this (at least I did it in the morning and not at night).

Make cup of tea and sit in office still in nightie

8:00 answer emails

8:30 have a chat with husband about marketing while getting ready.

9:30 into car and off to Niagara Park studio

10:00 beautiful preschool class. I absolutely love them, they are so gorgeous and enthusiastic!

10:30 head home for more work

11:00 watch a few more marketing videos and work out ways to implement them into my businesses.

Say goodbye to husband who is off to work

11:30 early lunch. Left over pasta and vegies from last night

11:50 back into office. More emails.

Get phone call from shop about a customer order. Turns out order never made it to supplier so have to do makeshift express order to get item in.

2:30 afternoon tea. Passionfruit, pear and English Breakfast tea.

Play fetch with Aggie. Poor thing hasn't been out for a walk for a while!

3:30 back into office. Attempt to structure some basic routine ideas for jazz and contemporary classes. Don't achieve much

4:30 into car and off to West Gosford studio for this evenings classes

5:00 intermediate ballet. One student missing due to illness

6:00 advanced jazz and contemporary. New student enrols (YAY)

7:30 intermediate foundation ballet. Two missing for school camp

8:30 finish up teaching for the night and lock up studio.

Have massive headache that has been coming on for a few hours. Search bag for pain killers in vain.

8:50 arrive home and complain of headache to husband. He advises dinner in oven and to have a hot shower.

Take panadol, have shower and wash hair

9:20 decide against dinner. Sit down to watch a finance video (my life is simply riveting).

10:20 feeling exhausted. Decide to enter new students on system tomorrow. Type up blog post and get ready for bed.

A day in the life of Miss Ali... Wednesday

7:30 up and out of bed. Feed fur babies and make tea (English Breakfast)

Get dressed and do hair/makeup. Today is another morning of working from home.

8:15 sit down in office to get onto today's tasks. Accounting and book keeping for Elite Dance

Watch online video on marketing and branding. Hope to put what I've learned to good use at Dancestuff. Bookmark website to watch further videos later...

Say goodbye to husband, who is off to work at the warehouse. He had a meeting with a potential stockist of his items.

More bookwork/ emails/ processing payments.

10:45 clean bathroom and vanity

11:15 morning tea/lunch. Edam cheese and crackers, and more tea.

Gather things needed for this afternoons work and classes.

12:30 into car and head to shop. Nearly have a heart attack on the way due to a huntsman spider running around on my window.

Panic and decide to get out the passenger side door, exhibit very unladylike behaviour climbing over to make this possible.

Set up laptop and work on website out back... creating sale items and listing new products in online store

Serve customers/ fit shoes while Josie does a pointe fitting for me.

4:00 back into the car (still thinking about the spider, which I can no longer see) to head to the Niagara Park studio

4:30 primary jazz. Such a beautiful little class full of gorgeous girls!

5:15 finish up and have quick meeting with mum about timetable for remainder of term and new enrolments for this week.

5:35 back into spider infested car to head home (Wednesday has now become my early evening for dancing)

6:00 Stop by shop to pick up order information that needs to be placed and lock up

6:30 arrive home

Message beautiful mother in law for her birthday. Find out that husband will be out for dinner again (forgot to mention to me).

Head into office to begin processing new students onto our system. Invoice new students.

7:30 dinner. Alfredo pasta and vegetables.

8:00 husband arrives home. Complain about spider. (May have possibly over-exaggerated size of spider to emphasize point to husband). He attempts to blindly spray exterior of car for said spider. Husband quickly gives up and informs me spider will probably reappear as I enter car tomorrow morning (not a helpful comment).

8:30 type up and place Energetiks order for Dancestuff

9:00 give up on work for the night, decide it is time to watch more Stargate and eat ice cream.

Clean desk in office and head to the couch for relaxing time.

11:10 time for a shower and bed!

xx Miss Ali

A day in the life of Miss Ali... Tuesday

7:30 up and out of bed to feed those two little furry faces that follow me around in the morning.

Attempt to make cup of Irish Breakfast tea... alas, still no milk. Opt for jasmine green tea instead.

8:00 get dressed, and do hair. No need for makeup today as I have a facial booked!

Take a quick stock of the items lacking in our fridge (milk) and pantry for a grocery shop later in the day

8:45 sit down in office [will again be working from home this morning] and get to answering some emails and processing some payments.

Say goodbye to husband, who is off to work at the warehouse today.

Become distracted with something I found on facebook. The Organised Housewife blog is doing a declutter challenge. Begin making mental notes of all the areas in our house that I want to clean out.

9:30 find my way back into the work I am supposed to be doing. Check some orders that were put through for Dancestuff and need to be paid.

10:45 into the car and off to Crowne Plaza at Terrigal for my facial. This is something I began doing last year in the lead up to my wedding and have decided to keep doing. They give such fabulous and relaxing facials that I am going to make a point of keeping my routine up.

11:00 arrive and wait in nice relaxing waiting room

11:15 facial. I leave it up to the therapist to judge what my skin needs at the time. Today I had a glycolic.

12:15 emerge feeling so amazingly relaxed and get given cup of rosehip tea.

Head to Coles to get that milk!

1:30 finish grocery shop and off home

Put groceries away and make a late lunch. Ham and salad roll and a sultana scone, with my lovely cup of tea [finally]

2:30 back into the office to get some more work done before dancing. More emails, class lists and music selection.

4:45 Receive phone call from lovely friend Mel.

Grab a muesli bar to eat in the car and drive to the studio.

5:30 ballet with my Intermediates

6:30 ballet with my Grade 6 girls

7:30 make some jasmine tea while the girls are changing for the next class then Intermediate Jazz/Contemporary

8:30 finish up, clean the studio area and take myself home. Remember to go the back way as to avoid the night road works near home.

8:50 arrive home and put oven on. Husband is out for dinner with friends and family so only have myself to feed. Put a chicken/ camembert/ chives fillo pastry wrap in the oven and jump in the shower.

Feed cat and dog and clean mess in kitchen.

9:15 dinner ready and husband has just arrived home. He shares my dinner with me (good thing I wasn't too hungry) as we watch another episode of Stargate.

Have a naughty icecream for dessert

10:15 feeling sore and exhausted so decide it is time to go to bed.

A day in the life of Miss Ali... (Monday)

Once again my schedule has changed a little, but I still find myself as busy as ever (I simply wouldn't have it any other way).

Here's another week in my life...

8:00 wake up and crawl out of bed (OK so I pressed snooze a couple of times, I was actually supposed to get up at 7:30). I'm working from home this morning so have the added excitement of a sleep in :)

Feed cat and dog and make a cup of tea... use the last of the milk and make a mental note that we need more. Vegemite toast and tea - perfect breakfast.

Get dressed, put makeup on and do hair... working from home is no excuse not to dress properly

9:00  sit down in office to [FINALLY] get enrolments and invoicing done for Term one. Have had a broken mouse and have been unable to use my computer for the first week of term. Invoices are crucial, no invoicing means no payments and with no payments we will quickly go backwards!

9:30 get a phone call from my shop to ask about a customer order that hasn't arrived yet.

Manage to get all students enrolled onto our system and update their classes.

Run through all invoices to apply family discounts and check they are right before pressing the magic button that emails them all out at once (love it when technology works).

11:00 time for another cup of tea... open fridge and remember milk is gone. Not quite in the mood for green tea, so head miserably back to office sans tea.

Open Elite Dance mail and organise bills that need to be paid. It's rather depressing having to pay things when nothing has come in yet. Respond to email and voicemail enquiries.

12:00 lunch with husband (who is also working from home). He heads out to pick us up lunch (potato pie) and we eat while watching an episode of Stargate (don't judge me).

1:30 back into office to get some work done. Sorting out music and lesson plans for the classes in the week ahead. Still too early to pick concert music, so picking different things to play around with.

3:30 into the car and off to the studio for my classes.

4:00 private lesson with my scholarship student. She'll be doing a solo in the concert and I like to get started on it early in the year.

4:30 ballet with my Grade 6 class.

5:30 strength and technique for my seniors. They definitely need it after the long summer break

6:15 advanced and intermediate open ballet. A big class with a wide amount of ages and standards. Lots of shuffling around.

7:15 finish up at the West Gosford studio and duck over to the Niagara Park studio (good thing they are both so close)

7:30 intermediate jazz and contemporary.

Get given enrolments for two new students at our Niagara Park studio (YAY)

8:30 finish up and head home. Call husband and check if grocery stop needed on the way home. He thinks he can manage with what we have and starts cooking (also YAY).

Get stuck in backed up traffic due to night road works and have to sit still for a good 15 minutes (only 2 or 3 minutes from home).

9:15 arrive home to dinner almost ready thanks to beautiful husband. Chicken breast with bacon, cheese and BBQ sauce under the grill and salad (not the most healthy of dinners, but very delicious, made even better by the fact that I didn't have to cook it). Jump in shower quickly while it's being finished. Emerge smelling much prettier. Send text message to lovely friend Mel.

Sit down for dinner and to have a chat about our businesses and what we both need to do over the next few weeks.

Feed cat and dog who are both acting as though they've never been fed in their lives.

Attempt to make a cup of tea... realise we still have no milk, settle for hot chocolate instead. Watch another episode of Stargate (I promise I am not obsessed) with husband.

11:30 off to bed to write post and sleep

Good night, lovely readers xx
