Wedding Finds

Today I had a trip down to Sydney with Nikya who has introduced me to a fabulous French designer that she has done makeup work for.

Ellie at L’amoureuse is making me the most beautiful and elegant hair piece for my wedding and I can't wait for it to be finished! We looked through her gorgeous designs and fabrics and started piecing together the perfect hair piece.

Goodbye David

Today is a sad day for my family. In the early hours of yesterday morning we lost one of our cousins. I say cousin, as that is what he was to me, but to others he was a brother, a son, a nephew, an uncle, a grandchild or a friend.

As my Uncle John has said: "Nobody can ever take away the fact that you lived your life the way you wanted to live it, You were strong in your decisions of how you would live you're life and ultimately how you would make the choice to leave"

David, you will be missed by all who knew you.

To my beautiful Aunty Kath and cousins Dennis and Jessica: I know the emptiness you are feeling right now. I know that hole you have inside that feels like it will never go away. I have cried the tears you are crying now and I have sat in the silent despair and heartache I know you are going through. One day, we will sit with happy memories of David, that don't bring waves of sadness. Now is not that time, but I promise, you will smile again. Please know I am here to support you from afar. Although I can't be there with you, I am thinking of you always and sending my love.

New promises

Tonight as I go to bed, I am making myself a new promise. To break up with my snooze button.

My alarm is set every morning for 6:30am. Every evening I go to bed, set my alarm and run through my ever growing 'to do' list for the following day.

That is however as far as I've been getting for the past month. Pretty much every single morning, I've woken up to that depressing sound of the alarm that draws us all out of bed. But I've not followed through, I've not allowed it to draw me out if bed and into the day ahead. I press snooze, but not just once, I press it multiple times. I'm a snooze junkie. So much so that all the things I plan for the morning don't happen. I haven't been making it to early morning gym sessions. I've gotten behind in my paperwork and my poor little Aggie has been missing out on her lovely [occasional] morning walks.

I've managed to tell myself every morning that it's possible to get ready for work in half an hour, and although some people [my sister, my fiancĂ©] will argue that it's perfectly possible, for me it's not. I feel like I'm scraping by. My mornings were always a productive time that allowed me to pull myself together and face the long and exhausting day ahead. Sure I have enough time to get dressed, brush my teeth, do my hair and makeup and pack some lunch, but I don't feel ready when I leave the house. It's not good to be drinking breakfast in the car instead of eating a proper one at the dining table.

So from tomorrow morning, I am going cold turky. I will not press snooze. I will not tell myself that 10 more minutes sleep will make me feel better [we all know it won't. That first 10 more minutes is like the first step down a steep time stealing path]. I will get my lazy ass out of bed and take my Aggie for a walk, do some accounting and eat a proper breakfast!

I promise!

Miss Ali wears...

Today Miss Ali wears...

* Grey work skirt: Review
* Black/white polka dot top: Ice (one of my cheap finds from several years ago)
* Black belt: not sure the brand or how long I've had it - it's an oldie
* Mauve cardigan: SES (another cheapie, I'm pretty sure I paid about $6 for it)
* Yellow heals: Wittner (perfect work shoes, very comfy and such a happy colour)
* Black cameo necklace: Equip (another cheap, old but treasured possession)
* Pink/gold watch: Forever New

Miss Ali wears...

I love dressing up, I do it most days. Every day deserves a beautiful outfit and I like to throw something a little dressy even into my casual wardrobe choices.

I have a beautiful walk in wardrobe where all my favourite clothes and shoes sit waiting on display for me to choose from. Selection of my outfit each day usually starts with a quick look at the weather
app on my phone (I am particularly sensitive to cold and can't stand not being prepared for it). Then I look at all my gorgeous shoes... This is normally the first thing I pick and make my outfit around them. My wardrobe consists of various girly and pretty items from a mix of places and some staples that can be put with my dressy pieces. Some cheap finds that I pair with a more expensive top or bottom, some lovely new things and some old favourites that I continue to wear (even though I've had some of them more than 10 years).

'Miss Ali wears' will give me the chance to show you the clothes I love.

Here's today's outfit, it's not a warm day and I'm at my shop for most of it, my work for the day tends to dictate the outfit choice.

Miss Ali wears:
* Black lace top: Tokito City (I love this brand, their shirts are always made from the most beautiful feeling fabric)
* White cardi with black lace detail: Review (probably one of my favourite brands for pretty, feminine clothes - I usually have to wait for them to go on sale before I buy)
* Grey 3/4 pants: Banana Republic (I bought these on holiday in Paris last year, I absolutely love them, so super comfy and they go with everything, plus they remind me of a fabulous day spent shopping on the Champs Elysses with Mel)
* Coral heals: Miss Shop Myer (got these on sale last week for $39 - love bargains)!
* Return to Tiffany & co. Necklace: Tiffany's New York
* Silver watch: Guess (a gift from Matt for my 21st birthday)

Happy Birthday

Today is my 27th birthday. I'm not too sure how I feel about that yet... I don't think I am far along as I thought I would be by this age (not that I know what I expected), but in other waysp I feel like I have done a lot more than I imagined. I don't think I ever thought I would own and run two businesses, enrol in uni, or be walking down the aisle in a few short months to be married.

Usually my birthday is spent like any other day... working and teaching (with the exception of last year that I got to spend in Europe), but this year as my birthday fell on a Saturday, I decided to give myself the day off, well some of the day off.

I woke up at 6 to do some work, send some emails and check through some accounting, during which I enjoyed a fabulous pot of Irish breakfast tea and got ready for rehearsals. My kids have a performance tomorrow and we had a quick practice at 8:30 this morning. My car is in at the mechanics being fixed so Nikya drove me to the studio and Dad picked me up.

I came home to some lovely red roses and a freshly cleaned house from by gorgeous fiance. Ate some fruit and toast as I spent some time reading the blogs I love and scrolling through facebook. Then I had a nap (most people wont understand how exciting that is for me... I never get day time naps)! and read a book. Matt and I went for a drive, we stopped by the shop (because I am a workaholic and can't help myself) to check up on a few things and then went shopping for a new scratching post for Miss Marple.

This evening I went to dinner with some lovely friends and my parents, we ate at the Entrance Lake House. It was so nice to see everyone together :)

So my birthday is now drawing to a close, I had a nice relaxing day which differed from my normal busy days and it seems 27 is off to a nice start :)

Lovely quotes

One of the mums from dancing posted this on my Facebook wall a little while ago. Every time I see it, it brings a smile to my face, there's nothing like fabulous shoes to start the day right!

Wednesday, 9 October 2013

I'm finding it extremely difficult to get anything done today. I have accounting that needs to be done, emails and voicemails to return, mail to go through and concert timetabling to sort out.... so far I have done nothing on my 'to do' list. I have taken a trip to the bank, cleaned and reorganised my desk in my office, sorted some mail into neat little piles (but not actually done anything with it), played fetch with the dog and made lunch. None of these things actually needed to be done today, but they presented themselves as better options than the things I need to do. Not a very productive day at all!

I have a few short hours left before I need to go and teach for the evening, but I just can't bring myself to get stuck in to anything. I know I will regret this very soon (I am already feeling guilty about it) and I will spend tomorrow wishing I had just done something today.

I am usually a very organised person (some might say obsessive), today however I have been hit with the procrastination stick. Anyone out there have any tips to get me off my bum?

A lovely Friday night...

Tonight is one of those rare and elusive nights of doing nothing. Matt's out for the night, I'm on holidays from dancing and have no work planned for the night. So I'm snuggled up on the couch with Aggie, I have a bottle of moscato, a bowl of twisties and I'm set for an evening with the oh so fabulous Audrey...
